The Eat Your Serial staff is comprised of people from various backgrounds, so we’re going to make sure we celebrate all of the big holidays this year. Starting with Thanksgiving:
Each week, starting December 1st, we’re going to be putting out EYS Holiday Cards on this here blog, and our Facebook page. We’re going to want to know how you celebrate the holidays when we do.
For all of us though, there’s one particular holiday that we’re looking forward to here at Eat Your Serial. Keep following these holiday cards to find out which one…
Did you know that November is National Novel Writing Month? Did you know that it gets boiled down into this fun little word called NaNoWriMo? On Twitter if you search the hashtag #nanowrimo you’ll see hundreds if not thousands of people across the country talking about it.
So What is NaNoWriMo?
It is actually an organization that aims at helping writers to achieve a goal of writing a novel. You are supposed to set daily goals and by the end of 30 days you are now in possession of a full novel that you wrote. If you write 50,000 words by midnight on November 30th, the organization sends you a nice certificate. Sounds pretty simple, right?
It can be for some, and it can be pretty difficult for others for all of the reasons you can probably imagine. It’s a rigorous schedule, you must be at your creative best, you should have some kind of plan before you start, and obviously a great idea at the get go helps. Also, being able to commit yourself to writing each day is obviously paramount to your mission. Once you set word count goals for the days/week the time will go fast.
What Do You Do When the Book is Finished?
Well, they do give you a winner’s web page badge and a PDF certificate. You also get that amazing self satisfaction knowing you completed your goal and stuck to a schedule.
What if that isn’t enough?
Well that’s where we come in. We have this nifty little serial site and we need writers. We want excellent stories in any genre. Eat Your Serial just completed a successful Kickstarter campaign and we are currently putting their site together to launch in 2011. NaNoWriMo comes at a perfect time because we are taking submissions and it is free for the writers we choose to display their work. If you want to read more about our submission process, check here. It’s pretty simple – and when you finish your NaNoWriMo book – or even if you’re well on your way and are confident you’ll finish – send us a chapter or two now. The beauty of a serial is that you don’t have to be finished right now to get the process started.
Right now we’re at the exact midway point of National Novel Writing month. We’ll be posting a few resources for writers in the next couple of weeks and we look forward to seeing what you writers can come up with!
I’m not a morning person, so I’m going to keep this short and sweet and then I’m going to try to go back to bed. I say try because I’m buzzing and truly blown away by the support of the growing Eat Your Serial community that lead to the successful completion of our Kickstarter campaign.
100 supporters. $7,105 raised.
As far as I’m concerned, those numbers are nothing short of astonishing, and I wanted to take a moment and thank you all. So on behalf of myself and everyone on the Eat Your Serial team, I want to express our humble gratitude. Your support has guaranteed that we can launch an amazing platform to promote up-and-coming creative talent.
Just wait until you see what comes next. And it’s all thanks to you.
