1024.jpg” alt=”” width=”300″ height=”442″ />To me, there’s nothing better than a great campy film. There’s honestly no reason to watch anything else; blood, gore, romance, nudity and comedy all in one movie! It’s been a little while since I last saw a decent campy film (I believe Cabin in the Woods was the last one), so when Piranha 3DD FINALLY became available for rental, I ran to the nearest Redbox and picked it up.
I had heard about this movie a while ago, and waited patiently for it to hit a movie theater close to me. Unfortunately, it never came. I had to hear about it from Twitter users raving or trashing it after seeing it. Needless to say, I was green with envy.
The first Piranha movie came out in 2010, and I had the opportunity to see it in 3D. My suggestion to you, loyal readers, is that if you have never seen nudity (of the male and female persuasion), someone lose a body part or die from a bloody, fishy death in 3D… you are seriously missing out and need to do so ASAP.
Piranha 3DD starts off with a look back on the last location of the first movie, Lake Victoria. This small Arizona town used to be a Spring Break hot spot, but after the piranhas got into the lake and killed hundreds of vacationers, the town was abandoned. Flash forward to present day as Chet (David Koechner) and his stepdaughter Maddy (Danielle Panabaker) prepare for the grand opening of their water park. Chet has turned the park from a family environment to a strip club in water. Maddy recruits some of her friends from school to come help for the summer. Little do they know, they’re about to have a “wild” summer.
After Shelby (Katrina Bowden) and Maddy’s friend Ashley (Meagan Tandy) disappears, the two girls are sitting by the lake trying to figure out where she could be when they are attacked by carnivorous fish. After getting a good look at one of them, Maddy recruits her ex-boyfriend, Kyle (Chris Zylka) and friend Barry (Matt Bush) to head to Lake Victoria to ask Mr.Goodman (Christopher Lloyd) what he knows about these prehistoric monsters. He warns them that even though the lakes are not connected, they’re probably traveling through underground bodies of water and that they are so strong, they can break through steel. If there is a fresh body of water, they will get into it, and they will attack. Of course, Maddy mentions that the water park drains directly into the lake, oh, and later she finds out that her Stepfather is pumping water from an illegal well. Cue the Piranhas!
Besides, the blood, gore and nudity, some fan favorites made cameos in the film, including Gary Busey, David Hasselhoff, Ving Rhames and Paul Scheer. Rhames and Scheer survived the attack from the last movie and have returned for this blood soaked sequel.
If you’re into campy horror films, then you need to go rent this movie. If you’re not, go rent it anyways, it’s worth the $1.30.
